The JJ/WBGSP is open to individuals from eligible developing nations ๐ŸŒ who:
โœ… Have relevant work experience in a development-related field.
โœ… Have a proven history of contributing to their country’s progress.
โœ… Are applying for a masterโ€™s degree in a development-focused subject.

๐Ÿ“ Application Requirements

To be considered for the JJ/WBGSP scholarship, applicants must meet the following two conditions:

โœ… 1. Eligibility Criteria

๐Ÿ”น Nationality: Must be a citizen of an eligible World Bank member country (see ๐ŸŒ Annex 1 for the list).
๐Ÿ”น No Dual Citizenship: Cannot hold citizenship of any developed country.
๐Ÿ”น Work Restrictions: Cannot be:

  • A World Bank Group employee, consultant, or executive director.

  • A close relative of a World Bank employee (e.g., parents, siblings, children, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews).
    ๐Ÿ”น Education: Must have obtained a bachelorโ€™s degree at least 3 years before the application deadline.
    ๐Ÿ”น Work Experience:

  • At least 3 years of paid development-related work since earning a bachelorโ€™s degree.

  • Experience must be within the past 6 years before the application deadline.

  • Applicants from fragile or conflict-affected states ๐ŸŒ (Annex 3) should provide employment documentation, though limited job opportunities will be considered.
    ๐Ÿ”น University Admission: Must be unconditionally admitted (except for funding) to a participating masterโ€™s program outside their country of citizenship and residence.
    ๐Ÿ”น Not Eligible If:

  • Previously awarded a JJ/WBGSP scholarship but did not complete the program.

  • Currently enrolled in a participating masterโ€™s program.

โš ๏ธ Important Notes

  • Applicants must determine their own eligibility. The JJ/WBGSP Secretariat will NOT assess this before submission.

  • Do NOT submit an application before receiving an unconditional admission letter.

  • Multiple applications lead to disqualification.

๐Ÿ“… Deadline: May 23, 2025 (12:00 noon EST)

๐Ÿ“Œ A complete application must include:
โœ… Two professional recommendation letters (submitted online).
โœ… One completed application form (in English or the language of the masterโ€™s program).
โœ… Scanned copies of supporting documents:
1๏ธโƒฃ Proof of development-related work experience (see FAQs for details).
2๏ธโƒฃ Bachelorโ€™s degree diploma (and, if applicable, the most advanced graduate degree diploma).
3๏ธโƒฃ CV in the required format (Annex 4), in English (or French for the GPE program at FERDI).
4๏ธโƒฃ Unconditional admission letter from a participating masterโ€™s program:
– Must be from a JJ/WBGSP-listed university ๐ŸŽ“.
– Must be outside your country of citizenship and residence.
– Cannot be changed after selection.

โš ๏ธ Important!
๐Ÿšซ Do NOT submit an application before uploading your admission letter.
๐ŸŒ If any document is not in English or the language of the masterโ€™s program, upload both the original and a translated version.
๐Ÿ“Œ Certified translations are NOT requiredโ€”free online translation tools are acceptable.

๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ Recommendation Letters Guidelines

๐Ÿ”น Only TWO recommendations are allowed (one is not enough, three are not permitted).
๐Ÿ”น Must be from professionals who have directly supervised or observed your development-related work.
๐Ÿ”น Preferred (but not mandatory): One letter should be from a current or former supervisor.
๐Ÿ”น Restrictions:

  • Volunteer work recommendations do NOT count (except for fragile states ๐ŸŒ).

  • Professors cannot write a recommendation unless they supervised your paid work.
    ๐Ÿ”น Process:

  • Submit the Recommendation Request Form online.

  • Confirm your recommendersโ€™ email addresses before submission.

  • The system will email them a recommendation request within 5 minutes.

  • Ensure both recommendations are submitted before the deadlineโ€”late submissions disqualify your application.

๐Ÿ“ข Finalists (June 2025) โ€“ Additional Requirements

If selected as a finalist, you must submit:

๐Ÿ†” Identification: A passport scan (or other legal document with matching name).
๐Ÿ’‰ Medical Certificate:

  • Must be from a doctor.

  • Must state that the applicant is fit to travel and study.

  • Must be less than three months old before the program starts.

  • Must be submitted at least 21 days before travel.

๐Ÿ“Œ For U.S.-based scholars ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ:
Applicants must enter on a J-1 Visaโ€”entering on another visa will cancel the scholarship.
