Location: Hopeland, Argolida, Greece

Description: The DESIRE project invites participants to explore the relationship between body image and self-identity in a safe and inspiring environment. Through movement, physical theatre, and creative expression, participants will:

  • Develop confidence in non-verbal communication.
  • Challenge gender stereotypes and promote inclusivity.
  • Learn to integrate mind, body, and emotions for personal growth.
  • Engage in interactive workshops and creative performances.
  • Connect with a diverse international group of young people sharing similar interests and experiences.

The program includes group discussions, artistic presentations, and community engagement, fostering empowerment and self-awareness. Activities are rooted in experiential learning and designed to enhance participants’ understanding of gender and diversity through embodied experiences.

Eligibility:

  • Participants: Aged 18-30
  • Group Leaders: No age limit (18+)
  • Countries: Greece, Italy, Latvia, Romania, Czechia, Bulgaria, Spain
  • Requirements: Basic English skills, openness to gender and inclusion topics, willingness to fully participate.
  • Priority for: LGBTQIA+ individuals and those facing social or economic challenges, including migrants, unemployed individuals, and people of color.

Program Structure:

  • Day 1 (May 27): Arrival, Icebreakers & Welcome
  • Day 2 (May 28): Self-Exploration & Team Building
  • Day 3 (May 29): Gender Identity & Social Perceptions
  • Day 4 (May 30): Body Expression & Mindfulness
  • Day 5 (May 31): Exploring Desire & Sexuality
  • Day 6 (June 1): Movement & Sensory Awareness
  • Day 7 (June 2): Creative Performance Preparation
  • Day 8 (June 3): Public Sharing & Project Reflection
  • Day 9 (June 4): Departure

Follow-up Activities:

  • Organizing local workshops using acquired methods.
  • Sharing experiences on social media and through video storytelling.
  • Contributing to an online gallery showcasing project insights.
  • Participating in post-exchange reflection sessions with peers and mentors.
  • Engaging with local organizations to promote gender diversity and inclusion.

Accommodation & Facilities:

  • Venue: Hopeland eco-community, a sustainable living space immersed in nature, offering an off-grid, eco-friendly experience. Facilities include solar-powered energy, composting toilets, and outdoor showers.
  • Accommodation: Participants will stay in 8 shared teepee tents (each accommodating 2-4 people) or a guesthouse with 4 rooms containing 16 bunk beds. The guesthouse provides basic indoor facilities, while the teepees offer a closer connection to nature.
  • Sleeping Arrangements: Participants are expected to bring their own sleeping bags, mats, and pillows, especially those staying in teepees. A limited number of extra mattresses may be available upon request.
  • Meals: Vegetarian/vegan meals will be collectively prepared by participants in a communal kitchen using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Cooking duties will be shared as part of the experience.
  • Water & Hygiene: Drinking water is available on-site, and participants are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles. Showers will be available, but water conservation is promoted.
  • Internet & Electricity: Access to electricity is limited due to the off-grid setup, and Wi-Fi is not widely available. Participants should prepare for a low-tech experience, focusing on community engagement and personal reflection.
  • Workshop Spaces: Open-air spaces will be used for group activities, discussions, and performances, allowing participants to connect with nature while engaging in learning.
  • Outdoor Common Areas: Multiple communal spaces, including a fire pit, shaded seating areas, and garden spots, are available for relaxation and social interaction.
  • Laundry: Hand-washing facilities will be available for clothing. Participants are advised to bring quick-dry and easy-to-clean garments.
  • Community Guidelines: Hopeland operates as an alcohol-free space where all participants are expected to contribute to daily tasks, respect the environment, and adhere to a collaborative and inclusive mindset.
  • Daily Schedule: Activities will be balanced between structured workshops, free time, and moments of reflection to ensure an enriching yet comfortable experience.

Travel & Costs:

  • Travel costs covered up to specified limits per country.
  • Participants contribute €50 to support sustainability and local impact.
  • Eco-friendly travel options are encouraged.
  • Public transportation is recommended for local travel within Greece.
  • Smokinya Foundation asks for a contribution of 20 EUR / 40 LEVA from all confirmed applicants.

Reimbursement Information:

  • Travel costs will be reimbursed up to the Erasmus+ funding limits per participant’s country:
    • Greece: Up to €23
    • Italy, Czechia, Latvia, Romania, Bulgaria, Spain: Up to €275
    • If traveling green (bus, train, carpooling): Up to €320
  • Participants must use the most cost-effective travel options (e.g., economy class flights, trains, or buses).
  • Reimbursement is processed after the exchange, once participants submit all required travel documents (boarding passes, invoices, and receipts).
  • The process may take up to 3 months after the program ends.
  • Only participants who attend the full program are eligible for reimbursement.
  • Additional costs for eco-friendly travel may be supported within Erasmus+ guidelines.

What to Bring:

  • Comfortable clothing for movement exercises.
  • Personal toiletries and towel.
  • Sleeping bag, mat, and pillow for those staying in teepees.
  • Reusable water bottle and eco-friendly essentials.
  • Musical instruments or props for creative sessions.
  • Notebook and pen for reflections and journaling.
  • Personal items for cultural exchange (e.g., food, music, stories, traditional items).
