Description
APRODEH has a long history of defending and promoting human rights in Peru ✊. The volunteer will work to support the right to a life free from violence and discrimination for women and girls in Apurímac 💜. They will provide emotional support to survivors 💪 and advocate for State accountability, fostering civic engagement 🗣️. The volunteer will participate in gender-based violence prevention workshops for teachers and students in Abancay 👩🏫, support legal training to build a network of pro bono lawyers for survivors of sexual violence ⚖️, and assist in healing activities grounded in community, decolonial, and feminist perspectives ✨. Collaboration with women’s organizations, feminist groups, and LGBTIQ+ collectives will help strengthen strategic and political capacities 🏳️🌈. Short trips to Cusco and Apurímac provinces will also be required to support outreach efforts and community engagement 🚗.
Accommodation, Food, and Transport Arrangements
🏠 The volunteer will be based in Abancay, the regional capital, where APRODEH’s regional office is located. From there, they will travel to other areas of the region and to Cusco 🌄. Work will focus on Abancay and Andahuaylas 🏙️. Private accommodation with all necessary facilities (single bedroom 🛏️, access to bathroom 🚿, living room 🛋️, kitchen 🍴, laundry 🧺, internet 📶) close to the office will be provided, along with food 🍲 and transport 🚍, funded by the project.
Training During the Activity
📚 The volunteer will have opportunities to learn about the realities faced by rural and urban Andean women and LGBTIQ+ individuals in Apurímac 🌸. They will explore empowerment and advocacy strategies on personal, collective, and political levels 📣. Learning will take place through readings 📖, healing spaces 💫, network coordination 🤝, and advocacy activities 🧑⚖️. The volunteer will work closely with a team experienced in gender issues and environmental defense 🌱, gaining cultural insights and fostering both professional and personal growth 💼, with a language course included 🗣️.
Participant Profile
The ideal volunteer will support collective healing for survivors of sexual violence from a feminist perspective 🌈. Experience in psychology 🧠 and knowledge of gender and intersectionality is valued 🌸. An interest or background in feminist activism is appreciated ✊. Fluency in Spanish (both written and spoken) is required 📝. Previous volunteer experience, strong teamwork 🤝, social sensitivity ❤️, empathy 🤗, and organizational skills are key 🗂️. Experience in information analysis 📊 and understanding of the Peruvian or Latin American context is a plus 🌎.
