Description
Getty Scholar Grants are for established writers, scholars or who have achieved qualification in their domains.
Beneficiaries will be residents of the the Getty Villa or Getty Research Institute, where they will work on their projects without academic obligations.
They will make use of Getty collections and join their colleagues in a meetings each week, who are devoted to an annual research topic, and of course to take part in the intellectual life of the Getty.
Benefits
Duration of the scholarship is from three to nine months in residency:
– Three-month- September to December, January to April, April to June: $17,200;
– Six-month- September to April, January to June: $42,000;
– Nine-month- September to June: $65,000.
Beneficiaries will receive airfare to and from Los Angeles an office at the Getty Villa or the Getty Research Institute, a flat in the Getty scholar housing complex and available healthcare option. These terms apply as of June 2019 and are subject to future changes.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants are scholars of all nationalities who are working in the humanities, arts, or social sciences.
Candidates who obtained their degree after September 1, 2015, should apply for a postdoctoral fellowship.
Note: Current staff and members of Getty and their immediate family are not eligible for Scholar Grants. Recent beneficiaries who have gotten a Getty Scholar grant within the previous three years might be expelled from grant competition.

– Project Proposal: Each application must include a description of the candidate’s proposed plan for study and research (max. 5 pages, typed and double-spaced).
